Marie Mammaro Pastena has been our school’s guidance counselor since September 2005. Prior to working at CSIHSIS, Mrs. Pastena was a math teacher in an intermediate school. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Sociology, and her Master’s degree in School Counseling, both from St. John’s University. Most recently, she completed the Educational Leadership program at the College of Staten Island.
While completing her degree in School Counseling she worked with adolescents in both school and rehabilitation counseling settings. This included individual and group counseling, assistance with academic affairs, crisis intervention, and peer mediation. She enjoys working closely with the students at The College of Staten Island High School for International Studies.
In her free time she enjoys traveling. She also loves to read. Some of her favorite books are: I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb, A Million Little Pieces by James Frey, and anything written by Jodi Picoult. Mrs. Pastena enjoys all types of music, and loves to watch American Idol.
